The Sunshine Coast Lightning is an Australian netball team that is based at the University of the Sunshine Coast. The team was founded in 2016 as a joint venture between Melbourne Storm and the University of the Sunshine Coast. Since 2017, the team has been competing in the Suncorp Super Netball. The team plays their home matches at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland.

The Lightning was formed in the summer of 2016. Its inaugural season began with a wildcard position. The team never quite got going, though, finishing bottom of the Suncorp Super Netball table. The Lightning also struggled to win games during their season, only winning two games out of five. The team’s season ended in a disappointing defeat to the New South Wales Swifts.

The team is owned by the UniSC, which played a key role in its establishment. UniSC is the Foundation Principal Partner for the team. The Lightning plays its home games at the UniSC stadium and trains for competition there. Its home games are well-attended, drawing supporters from all over the region. The team competes in the Suncorp Super Netball league between April and September. The Lightning is part of the UniSC and the University of the Sunshine Coast.

In Rounds one and two, the Lightning suffered several losses. Their defence was weakened and they conceded a combined total of 164 goals. The team also had difficulty keeping other teams’ high-quality shooting. While Steph Wood was an excellent leader, the squad lacked premiership quality.
