Maroochydore is home to the Sunshine Coast Netball Association, which is the hub of all netball competitions. The franchise will compete in the new Australian national competition in 2017. Its inaugural coach will be Noeline Taurua, the former New Zealand international who played 34 Tests for her country. In December 2015, Taurua took over as coach of the Steel after they won the minor premiership. The appointment of the former New Zealand international has garnered praise from the community, who say the new coach will be a great addition to the Sunshine Coast.

The new facility will also serve as a training facility. A swimming pool, fitness and recovery centres will be available for players to use. The Sunshine Coast Lightning will kick off the season on Sunday, and Taurua will continue contributing to the game at home and abroad. The club will continue to prepare international players for the world netball championship, to be held in Liverpool. In the meantime, she will use the academy to help other teams achieve their goals.

The Sunshine Coast Netball Association is the hub for all local netball competition. It offers competitive opportunities and friendship to its players. Teams from the Sunshine Coast regularly represent the region at state and country carnivals and in state league comps in Brisbane. The academy is open to new club registrations throughout the year. A new degree will give students the skills to pursue careers in outdoor lifestyle. It will also give students the chance to work on research projects and develop new ideas. During the Sunshine Coast’s USC Diversity Week, the campus will celebrate diversity and equity. The university’s Mooloolaba Campus will host the screening on Thursday 25 at 6.30pm. And, to top it all off, the university’s Fraser Coast campus will host a regional exhibition of secondary school artworks.

The Sunshine Coast Lightning is an elite team and is part-owned by the NRL Club Melbourne Storm. Currently, the team has won four Premierships, including one from Suncorp Super Netball. There are also numerous local and international tournaments in the region. The Lightning is proud of its Suncorp Super Netball titles. And while it’s true that the Sunshine Coast has an exciting sporting scene, many people still find it hard to believe the Lightning is the first national professional netball team in the region.

Sunshine Coast Netball Association’s netball tournaments draw more than two thousand spectators each year. The event is free to attend and is open to all players over the age of 18.

USC Stadium, which is located at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Sippy Downs Campus, is the home of the Lightning Super Netball team. In 2017, the stadium was renovated to accommodate the Lightning. Its capacity increased from 320 to 2,000, and 1,000 additional seats were added to the east end of the arena. Lightning matches regularly sell out, and the team’s inaugural season sold out every match. The Lightning have won four of their five seasons at the USC Stadium.

The team’s logo is inspired by Aboriginal art. A concentric circle represents the meeting point of the squad. Ten women, or players, are symbolised by each NSW Swift player. Lines connecting the circles represent the journeys of the athletes. No journey is the same, and some took longer than others. The waterhole, and the wavy lines are a symbol of the game. All three have meaning for the players and their team.
